Hong Kong will commence the acceptance of applications in regard to the labour scheme to import 12,000 construction workers next week. Hong Kong government had made this decision in an effort to alleviate manpower shortage with first set of the successful applicants to arrive in the final quater of this year.
Last month, Hong Kong government said it would allow the construction, aviation and transport sectors to bring the workers into the city under a scheme that would be evaluated by unions and other members of the Labour Advisory Board.
The Secretary said "There will be 29 types of work for skilled workers in the construction aspect, with another 18 jobs for technicians. The imported workers are only allowed to take part in public works projects."
“We will receive applications every quarter and the first batch of successful applicants are expected to come to Hong Kong in the last quarter of this year.” she added.
Bar benders and fixers, metal-steel workers, welders, scaffolders and blasting workers are among the skilled workers allowed while technician jobs extends to civil engineering, surveying, fire services and site supervision.
Applicants must try to recruit locally no more than four months before submitting an application at a salary not lower than the prevailing median wages. Applications should only be submitted after local recruitment attempts confirm sufficient local manpower cannot be employed.
The scheme had stated that the public construction works that hold the contract value which is not less than HK$1 billion will be given priority for importing skilled workers, technicians and site supervisory personnel after submitting the application for themselves or on behalf of their sub-contractors.
However, their applications should only be submitted after confirming that the sufficient local manpower cannot be employed by them after the local recruitment have been attempted. Also, applicants must try to recruit locally no more than four months before submitting an application at a salary not lower than the prevailing median wages.

鋼筋彎曲工和固定工、金屬鋼工、焊工、腳手架工和爆破工都屬於允許的熟練員工，而技術員工作則延伸到土木工程、測量、消防和現場監督。
申請人必須在提交申請前四個月內嘗試以不低於現行工資中位數的工資在當地招聘。 只有在當地招聘嘗試確認無法僱用足夠的當地人力後才能提交申請。
計劃訂明，合約金額不少於10億港元的公營建築工程，在自行或代其分包商提出申請後，可優先輸入技術工人、技術人員及工地監督人員。 。
