On January 6, 2025, around 4 PM, a tragic incident occurred at MTR University Station when a 14-year-old girl fell onto the tracks and was struck by a train heading towards Lo Wu. Emergency services promptly arrived and were able to rescue her from beneath the train. The girl sustained serious injuries to her head and legs and was rushed to Prince of Wales Hospital for urgent medical care.

Her parents were notified and arrived at the hospital to be by her side. Authorities indicated that no suicide note was found at the scene; however, it was revealed that the girl had been dealing with emotional issues, prompting investigators to treat the case as a suspected suicide attempt.
In response to the incident, MTR services between Fo Tan and Tai Po Market were temporarily suspended due to safety concerns. Train schedules were adjusted, with services running every eight minutes from Admiralty to Fo Tan and every ten minutes from Tai Po Market to Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau. Additionally, MTR arranged free shuttle buses between Sha Tin Station and Tai Po Market Station.
By 5:49 PM, MTR announced that the situation had been resolved and services were gradually returning to normal. Preliminary investigations suggested that the girl had fallen from the first platform, and MTR is cooperating with law enforcement for further investigation.
