A fire at a nightclub in the Cambodian capital over the weekend killed eight people, including a 46-year-old Hong Kong man, according to local media reports, and immigration authorities in the city said on Monday they had not received any calls for help.
Also among the victims were five Chinese nationals, including a 29-year-old woman and four men aged between 23 and 30, as well as two Vietnamese nationals.
Cambodian police said a fire broke out at the 6969 nightclub in central Phnom Penh at around 5 p.m. local time on Saturday.
The fire reportedly left eight victims trapped upstairs in a five-storey building. Initial police investigations revealed a short circuit sparked the blaze, which burned for three hours.
A spokesperson for the Immigration Department said that it has contacted the Hong Kong Office of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia for the latest situation, but has not received any calls for help from Hong Kong people.
"The department will remain in contact with the office and embassy while closely monitoring the latest developments regarding the incident," he added.
The department also said Hong Kongers can seek help by calling or sending a message to the +852 1868 hotline, or through its app or online form.
