
The third alleged drug trafficker in a week from Brazil was apprehended by Hong Kong customs for hiding liquid cocaine worth HK$1.7 million in his body.
The 75 years old Peruvian man was said to have taken a flight from Sao Paulo, Brazil to Hong Kong through Ethiopia in Africa, customs authority reported.
He was nabbed by customs officers during clearance at Hong Kong International Airport on Sunday.
The spokesperson for the customs drug investigation bureau said the man looked suspicious during questioning at the counter.
She said that the man was consequently taken to Queen Mary Hospital, Yau Ma Tei for an X-ray, where the test confirmed 38 pellets of suspected liquid cocaine weighing almost 1.5kg were hidden inside him. The pellets were discharged from him as of Tuesday afternoon.
Trafficking in a dangerous drug is punishable by up to life in prison and a HK$5 million fine in Hong Kong.
