HONG KONG - The Hong Kong Observatory reported that at 7:24 pm on November 4, 2023 (Saturday), an earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale occurred near the southeastern coast of China.
Preliminary analysis from the Observatory shows that the earthquake's epicenter was located near 22.08° north latitude and 112.25° east longitude, about 39 kilometers northeast of Yangjiang and about 200 kilometers west of Hong Kong. The focal depth of the earthquake is estimated to be about 8 kilometers.
After the earthquake, the Hong Kong Observatory received more than 100 reports from local residents indicating slight shaking. The shaking lasted for several seconds. According to preliminary assessments, the local earthquake intensity was estimated to be magnitude III (three) on the Modified Mercalli Scale, indicating that the earthquake was felt indoors. The vibrations were described as similar to those caused by a passing light truck.
