A 66-year-old fisherman was arrested by Hong Kong police on suspicion of murder on Sunday after he went into a fight with another fisherman who fell into the water and died. The incident happened in North Point.
According to the reports, both men started a brawl that led to a fight while they were fishing at an area close to the ferry piers near North Point Estate Lane at around 3 pm on Sunday.
It was explained further that both of them fell into the water while exchanging blows and later swam back to the shore. Surprisingly, the fight continued and the two went inside the water again.
The suspect later went out of the water and looked for help when he could not see the other man anymore. He was said to seek help at the nearby Customs headquarters.
Police and firefighters arrived at the scene and thoroughly searched the vicinity. The victim, 61 years old man was eventually found under the water at about 5 pm. He was rushed to Pamela Youde Eastern Hospital in Chai Wan, where he was pronounced dead.
The suspect sustained some injuries with bleeding and bruising on his feet and waist as well. He was treated at Eastern Hospital and was detained by the police for interrogation.
The case was first treated as wounding to murder and finally as manslaughter.
