After many days of intense and unrelated searching efforts, the rescuers have discovered the dead body of Ning Kwok-leung, 57 who went missing during solo hiking at eastern Hong Kong country park. His body was found 17 days after he last heard from his family.

On Tuesday, around mid-day, the Fire Services Department rescuer team discovered the corpse in a thick jungle, in the middle of Wong Chuk Shan and Mau Ping in Ma On Shan Country Park.

The joint efforts included members of the Countryside Volunteer Search Team, the Hong Kong Guardians and other voluntary groups. There was a total number of about 150 personnel deployed by the authorities at a point, it was said.

The body was eventually authenticated as Ning Kwok-leung, 57, who set out for a walk alone on August 23 with his home return permit, a document issued for cross-border travel, was found on him, police said.
