An earthquake magnitude of 2.0 struck Hong Kong on Monday with some residents reporting tremors, Hong Kong Observatory forecaster said.

Hong Kong weather watchdog reported that the earthquake, which was at a depth of 10km (6.2 miles), hit Lantau Island near Lung Mei Hang at around 1.22 pm.

The report added that up to 10 residents said they experienced what was pointed out as “minor shaking” for a few seconds, Hong Kong Observatory said.

The forecaster said initial estimates gave the vibrations a local intensity of three on the Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale, under which mild tremors could be felt indoors that are similar to the vibrations caused by passing light trucks.
