The 75-year-old ex-prime minister of Malaysia, Muhyiddin Yassin is going to be charged on Friday with corruption and money laundering offences. The allegation of misuse of the relief programmes fund during the Covid-19 pandemic was levelled against him.

In the statement by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, " the ex-prime minister is facing several charges under the country's anti-corruption and money laundering regulations".

Muhyiddin, who was ordered to appear in the front of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission today will be charged at the Kuala Lumpur High court on Friday after the attorney general's chambers approved its request.

However, Muhyiddin has denied the allegations and said he is the target of a political vendetta.

Muhyiddin became Malaysia's prime minister in March 2020 and he lost the job in 2021 to more political manipulation. His coalition then lost a hard-fought election to another veteran politician, Anwar Ibrahim, in November.

Anwar Ibrahim, the present prime minister has promised to crack down on corruption, calling for a review of government relief programmes during the pandemic.
