China has pledged to ensure that "all necessary standards" are taken to safeguard its consumer's worries and safety about edible imports from Japan.
This follows after the International Atomic Energy Agency approved, on Tuesday that Japan’s plan to release the nuclear-contaminated water into the sea met international standards.
However, China Atomic Energy Authority answered the report by saying over 70 per cent of nuclear-contaminated water failed to meet discharge limits after going through a filtration system and that it still needs to go through further treatment.
China therefore has said will be extending a ban on edible imports from 10 Japanese regions including Fukushima and decide to make thorough screening on shipments from other prefectures. China said there will not be only spot-checking because of the concerns of probable leftover nuclear contamination of the water.
"Chinese customs will continue to strengthen the detection and monitoring of radioactive substances, ensure the safety of Japanese food exported to China, and strictly prevent the import of risky products,” the customs agency said on Friday. Moreover, It will also “maintain a high level of vigilance and take absolute responsibility to domestic consumers as the principle”.

此前,國際原子能機構週二批准日本向海中排放核污染水的計劃符合國際標準。
不過,國家原子能機構回應稱,70%以上的核污染水經過過濾系統後未達標排放,仍需進一步處理。
因此,中國表示將延長對福島縣等日本10個地區的食品進口禁令,並決定對來自其他縣的食品進行徹底檢查。 中國表示,由於擔心水體可能殘留核污染,不會僅進行抽查。
中國海關週五表示,“中國海關將繼續加強放射性物質檢測和監管,確保日本輸華食品安全,嚴防風險產品進口。” 高度警惕,以對國內消費者絕對負責為原則”。
