Chinese fishing boat sinks near Kagoshima, 21 people rescued, 5 still missing

Japan - According to the China Maritime Search and Rescue Center and the Japan Coast Guard, at 3:51 pm local time on November 18, a Chinese fishing boat capsized in the East China Sea west of Shimogoshima Island in Kagoshima. The incident caused 26 fishermen to fall into the water, 21 of whom were rescued by nearby Chinese fishing boats, and 5 others were missing.
After receiving the news, the Chinese Consulate General in Fukuoka immediately activated the emergency mechanism, established immediate communication with relevant Japanese departments and the China Maritime Search and Rescue Center, and coordinated handling. Consul General Lu Guijun spoke on the phone with the person in charge of the 10th Search and Rescue Department of the Japan Maritime Security Agency, emphasizing that China is highly concerned about the safety of fishermen and urging Japan to continue comprehensive rescue operations.
Japan said it has sent planes for search and rescue, but so far no clues have been found. The aircraft has returned due to dark and poor weather conditions and two patrol boats have been dispatched to the area where search and rescue operations are ongoing. More aircraft will be deployed after daybreak.
