Hongkongers can expect a cooler weekend due to a cold front moving across southern China on Saturday, according to the local forecaster.
In a forecast published on Tuesday, the Hong Kong Observatory said that temperatures on Saturday would reach as low as 19°C (66.2 °F) before hitting a minimum of 18°F on Sunday.
The forecaster attributed the cooler weather to a trough of low pressure that would form over central China in the run-up to the weekend and develop into a cold front.
“The cold front is expected to move across Guangdong on Saturday,” it said. “The associated showers and squally thunderstorms will affect the region.”
On Tuesday, mercury readings in Hong Kong ranged from 21-27°C. The weather is also expected to be warm, humid and misty over the next few days.
The city is likely to see cloudy skies and occasional showers on Saturday, alongside some fog at first and a few squally thunderstorms during the day.
Sunday will be cloudy with one or two showers at first, before turning fine and dry during the day.
While the weather will improve early next week, temperatures will remain cool and range from 19-25°C on Monday.
