A tragic wildfire in Japan has resulted in the death of at least one person and caused significant damage to more than 80 buildings. The blaze has forced the evacuation of hundreds of residents, according to authorities.

Military helicopters have been deployed to combat the flames, which are raging in the forested areas of Ofunato, located in the northern Iwate region. Aerial footage captures the intense orange flames consuming several houses, leaving behind only charred remnants.
As of yesterday morning, city officials reported that at least 84 buildings had been affected by the fire. Approximately 600 hectares of land—three times the size of Monaco—have been scorched. The cause of the wildfire remains under investigation.
Evacuations have impacted nearly 600 residents, with many sharing their experiences of the rapidly spreading fire. One evacuee, a 45-year-old woman, recounted her relief that her children were safe as the fire approached their home after she returned from work. Another individual, a 32-year-old man, expressed shock at witnessing such a series of fires occur in quick succession.
The situation continues to develop as authorities work to control the wildfire and assess the damage.
