A tragic incident occurred in Central Hong Kong on January 31st, resulting in the death of a 37-year-old woman who was struck by a tram.
The accident took place at approximately 11 am when a tram traveling east along Des Voeux Road Central collided with the victim, identified as Ms. Wan, near Two Chinachem Central. Ms. Wan suffered severe injuries to her head and hands and was immediately rushed to Queen Mary Hospital by ambulance. Despite receiving medical care and remaining in a semi-comatose state for two days, her condition worsened, and she tragically passed away on February 2nd at 5:23 pm.
It should be noted that the accident did not occur at a designated pedestrian crossing. Hong Kong Tramways, in response to inquiries, stated that as the tram approached Pedder Street in Central, a woman suddenly rushed across the road. The tram driver reacted quickly by applying the brakes, but the left front of the tram still collided with the woman. Firefighters arrived at the scene promptly and transported the injured woman to the hospital.
Hong Kong Tramways Limited has expressed its full cooperation with the police in their investigation to determine the precise details and causes of the accident.
