FEHD amends to tougher penalty laws against litter lout and stepped up the publicity

Food and Environmental Hygiene Department reported today( 20th of October, 2023) that tougher fines would be issued to the litter lout and unjust shop extension as of Sunday.


Anyone who throws litter around the city indiscriminately will be fined HK$3,000, an amount that doubles the current one. Also, the fine for unjust shop extensions and construction waste disposal will be tripled to HK$6,000.


Environmental Hygiene Department spokesperson said that the heavier penalty will come into effect on Sunday( 22nd of October,2023) after the amendment of Public Cleanliness and Obstruction) Ordinance (Cap. 570) (Fixed Penalty Ordinance) by the authority.


The environmental watchdog said the publicity and campaigns have been stepped up publicity to create awareness for the general public of the new fixed penalty levels. The public was urged to observe and follow the new regulations and maintain a hygienic environment through concerted efforts.


The FEHD also said that enforcement guidelines have been formulated and would be regularly reviewed.


Additionally, the department will be providing training and equipment for the frontline staff to assist them in engaging in their duties well.

食物環境衛生署今日(2023年10月20日)報告,自週日起,將對亂丟垃圾及不正當

店鋪擴建行為處以更嚴厲的罰款。


任何在市內亂丟垃圾的人將被處以3000港元的罰款,這筆金額是目前罰款的兩倍。


此外,不公正的店鋪擴建和建築廢棄物處置的罰款將增加兩倍至6,000港元。


環保署發言人表示,當局修訂定額罰款後,較重的罰款已於週日生效。


環保部門表示,已加強宣傳力度,提高民眾對新定額處罰標準的認識。 敦促公眾遵守並遵守新規定

食環署又表示,執法指引已製定,並會定期檢討。


此外,部門會為前線員工提供培訓和設備,協助他們更好地履行職責。
