Filipina drowns in Deepwater Bay

Hong Kong, June 24, 2024 - Tragedy struck at Deepwater Bay last night as a Filipina drowned while swimming. According to the police, the incident occurred around 7:00 PM when lifeguards rescued the woman from the water, approximately 20 meters from the shore.

The police have confirmed the victim's nationality as Filipino, but said they have no record of her occupation. A spokesperson from the Migrant Workers Office stated they had not yet received a report on the incident.

One witness, a fellow Filipina who happened to be at the beach at the time, shared that the victim was in the water for about an hour before being rescued. She provided a photo showing the lifeguards shielding the unconscious victim while administering first aid.

The police report indicates that the lifeguard called for emergency assistance after spotting the woman in the water. She was rushed to Ruttonjee Hospital in Wan Chai in a comatose state, but was later pronounced dead.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of her death. This tragic incident comes just three days after a similar drowning at the same location, where a 91-year-old woman drowned while swimming about two meters from the shore and was also pronounced dead at the hospital.
