Growing Number of Hong Kong Residents Consider Emigration as Immigration Fair Attendance Surges

In recent times, an increasing number of Hong Kong residents have been contemplating leaving the city behind and seeking opportunities elsewhere. This trend has gained momentum due to stricter immigration controls implemented by popular destinations like the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada, in addition to policy shifts by the local government.

The "International Immigration & Property Expo" has witnessed a significant rise in attendance, indicating a heightened interest in exploring relocation options. This surge in participation reflects the growing sentiment among residents who are seeking more stable futures overseas before tighter immigration policies come into effect.

According to survey data, nearly 70% of Hong Kongers are planning to emigrate within the next two years, although there has been a slight decrease compared to the previous year. Economic uncertainty is cited as a motivating factor by almost 24% of potential migrants, while over 20% are driven by the desire for better foreign education systems. Approximately 14% attribute their emigration plans to the political climate.

The demographic considering emigration primarily consists of middle to high-income earners, with over 60% earning an annual salary exceeding HK$500,000 and possessing assets worth over a million. The majority of these individuals fall within the age bracket of 31 to 50 and hold managerial positions. Such a potential exodus could have significant implications for the local job market.

Migration consultants have observed a sharp increase in inquiries following the government's budget announcements, which included the reduction of cooling measures in the property market. The sense of urgency to emigrate is further amplified by impending immigration policy tightening abroad, such as a 60% increase in healthcare fees for immigrants in the United Kingdom.

It is evident that the desire to leave Hong Kong and seek a more promising future elsewhere is gaining traction among its residents. As this trend continues, it is important for the local government to address the concerns and aspirations of its citizens to ensure the long-term stability and prosperity of the city.
