Hong Kong Observatory has recently reported that the city is presently undergoing extreme cold temperatures as a result of the winter monsoon and the influence of a rainband.
The city recorded in some regions this morning, an 8°C and below. The centre of the city recorded as low as 8.1°C while Tai Mo Shan, the highest peak in Hong Kong recorded a colder temperature of -0.6°C with freezing and damp conditions.
The Observatory emphasized that areas such as Sai Kung, Tai Po and Sha Tin are having severe cold weather.
The Hong Kong weather watchdog said that the cold weather is expected to persist on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
However, as the winter monsoon gradually eases, temperatures along the Guangdong coast are forecasted to rise next week and the city will undergo a New Year of warmer temperature ranging from 18°C-22°C.
