The death of the two workers who died of inhaling a suspected toxic gas while working at the underground construction site along Austin Road West last Saturday night is now being investigated by Hong Kong’s police crime squad. Their death is possibly inclined to safety negligence, the report said.

The accident investigation commenced on Monday( 25th of September, 2023) by a group of officers in civilian clothes at the site.

Police proceeded with this investigation after the hint that the project manager left the construction site on Saturday morning without putting in place all compulsory safety evaluations while the two workers were working in the underground and locked in for a significant amount of time.

A source familiar with the incident said the site engineering searched for these two workers around 5 p.m. after they were unable to be seen during the off-duty hour but found out that the working area was locked and left.

Eventually, on Sunday morning, the two were found unconscious in the underground tube after the lock of the working area was forced to open.
