Chief Executive, John Lee has received a personal invitation from United States to participate in the Asia Pacific Economics Cooperation meeting which is coming up on November 15 to 17 in San Francisco US, Hong Kong authority announced on Wednesday.
In the media enthusiasm to Chief Executive's decision on the invitation. However, Hong Kong authority has responded that Chief Executive will not be able to attend the meeting in person to represent Hong Kong, China due the issues with scheduling.
The Chief Executive has therefore appointed Financial Secretary Paul Chan to attend the meeting on his behalf, authority said.
The Chinese government had earlier demanded the United States to invite Hong Kong leader to an economic conference following a news report that Chief Executive John Lee would be barred due to his role in crushing the city’s pro-democracy movement.

當局表示，行政長官因此委任財政司司長陳茂波代出席會議。
先前有新聞報導稱，行政長官李家超因鎮壓香港民主運動而被禁止參加，隨後中國政府要求美國邀請香港領導人參加經濟會議。
