A 65-year-old man who flew from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to Hong Kong on Friday, 11th of August was arrested after the customs officers found cocaine hidden in an inlay of three book covers put in his backpack, customs said on Sunday.
The 2kg of the suspected drugs seized were said to be worth $HK2.1 million.
The man will be arraigned at the West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts on Monday, 14th of August. He is charged with one count of trafficking a dangerous drug into Hong Kong.
Hong Kong authorities have warned that under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking dangerous drugs is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction of any offender is a fine of HK$5 million and a life jail sentence.

海關週日表示,一名 65 歲男子於 8 月 11 日星期五從埃塞俄比亞亞的斯亞貝巴飛往香港,海關在其背包中的三本書封面鑲嵌物中發現藏有可卡因,隨後被捕。
檢獲的2公斤懷疑毒品據稱價值210萬港元。
該男子將於8月13日星期一在西九龍裁判法院提堂。 他被控一項向香港販運危險藥物的罪名。
香港當局警告說,根據《危險藥物條例》,販運危險藥物屬嚴重罪行。 任何罪犯一經定罪,最高刑罰為罰款港幣 500 萬元及終身監禁。
