A 51-year-old man was apprehended on Sunday( 15th of October, 2023) by Hong Kong customs officials while passing via Hong Kong's airport. He was caught hiding 11kg of suspected cocaine worth HK$12 million in the cushions section of his electric-powered wheelchair.
The suspect was reported by the Customs and Excise Department to be calling himself a director of a car rental company and arrived in Hong Kong from the Caribbean territory of Sint Maarten via Paris. He used crutches while his wheelchair and another piece of belonging were checked in, Customs said.
Meanwhile, the cushion compartments of his wheelchair made for the seat and backrest were suspicious to the officers as if it was once refixed after being opened. The suspicion was followed by a thorough X-ray examination of the wheelchair.
Eventually, 11kg of suspected cocaine hidden in concealed compartments was found after a thorough examination by the officers.
The man told the Customs Officials that the wheelchair was given to him on loan by his friend to use during his journey.
The man was arrested on suspicion of trafficking a dangerous drug, an offence punishable by a maximum fine of HK$5 million and life imprisonment.

一名51歲男子週日（2023年10月15日）經香港機場時被香港海關人員逮捕。 他被發現在電動輪椅的坐墊處藏匿11公斤懷疑可卡因，價值1,200萬港元。
據香港海關通報，嫌犯自稱是一家租車公司的董事，從加勒比海的聖馬丁島經巴黎抵達香港。 海關稱，在托運輪椅和另一件物品時，他拄著拐杖。
同時，他的輪椅上用於座椅和靠背的坐墊隔間讓警察感到可疑，好像它在打開後曾經被重新固定過。 懷疑之後，對輪椅進行了徹底的 X 光檢查。
經過徹底檢查後，最終在隱蔽隔間內發現了11公斤懷疑可卡因。
該男子告訴海關官員，輪椅是他的朋友借給他的，供他在旅途中使用。
該男子涉嫌販運危險藥物被捕，最高可被罰款港幣500萬元及終身監禁。
