Hong Kong is now back in the world’s top five countries where expatriate gets the highest pay and benefits packages. The survey conducted by human resources consultancy showed that expatriate payment dropped 2 per cent from 2021’s figures.
This year, the city has risen to three places to be in 5th rank in correspondence to the survey results by ECA International on Wednesday.
It was deduced that the power of the Hong Kong dollar countered the reverse in salary and benefits packages for expatriates.
The estimation of the average payment of the expatriate in the city is over HK$2.18 million (US$279,065) per annum in 2022, while salaries dropped by US$2,400 and benefits by US$1,600.
Britain is at the top of the global list with expatriates earning US$440,000 annually. It is followed by Japan, India and mainland China.
Singapore’s pay packages increased, placing the city-state 16th. Expatriate salaries also decreased in Japan, South Korea, the mainland and Taiwan last year.
In Japan, average pay and benefits packages for expats were the highest in Asia at US$370,183 per annum, with a 5 per cent increase in local currency terms.
