Hong Kong domestic helpers are favoured with HK$140 wage increment and HK$40 more for food allowance

Hong Kong government announced on Friday( 29th of September) that the minimum wage per month for domestic helpers will be ascending by HK$140.


Henceforth, the new workers signing the contracts must be paid at least HK$4,870 each month, a 3 per cent rise from  HK$4,730.


At the same time, domestic helpers who are provided with foodstuff allowances instead of eating meals at home will also have their payment ascending by HK$40 to make it a minimum of  HK$1,236.

The government spokesperson said that the amendment in the salary scale was favourably considered after assessing Hong Kong's general economic and labour market conditions over the past year, the near-term economic outlook, and the affordability of employers and the livelihoods of helpers.


Last Sunday, ( 24th of September) there was a demonstration by domestic helper activists who urged the government to raise the statutory minimum food allowance for foreign domestic helpers after the survey organized by Caritas Asian Migrant Workers Social Service Project and Hong Kong Helper's Food Rights Concern Group found that one out of three helpers in the city suffers from hunger.



香港家傭加薪140港元及另加40港元伙食津貼



香港政府週五(9月29日)宣布,家庭傭工每月最低工資將增加140港元。

今後,新簽訂合約的工人每月必須支付至少 4,870 港元,比 4,730 港元上漲 3%。

同時,獲得食品津貼而不在家吃飯的家庭傭工的津貼也將增加40港元,達到最低1,236港元。

政府發言人表示,在評估香港過去一年的整體經濟和勞工市場狀況、近期經濟前景、雇主的負擔能力和外傭的生計後,考慮調整薪級表。

上週日(9月24日),在明愛亞裔外勞社會服務計劃及香港傭工食權關注組織的調查後,家傭活動人士舉行示威,呼籲政府提高外籍家庭傭工的法定最低食物津貼小組發現,該市三分之一的幫工都面臨飢餓。
