Hong Kong government rolled out merriments weekend to encourage citizens to vote

Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive, John Lee in his speech to entice people to vote.
Hong Kong government will be organizing a series of outdoor concerts, free museum visits and a drone performance on the 9th of December, the day that leads to district council elections. The effort is to entice Hong Kongers to stay in Hong Kong to vote, the authority said.
Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu at the Executive Council meeting announced that the free admission will be available at the Science Museum, the Space Museum, the Museum of Art and Wetland Park.
Also, the series of activities such as concerts, sports engagement and drone performances will be situated at six outdoor venues of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. Wan Chai and Kwun Tong harbour fronts are also included in activities organized for the day for the residents to enjoy.
The Education Bureau will also organize family activities that would orientate kindergarten, primary and secondary students to let them be acquainted with the districts they live.
Likewise, the Environment and Ecology Bureau will collaborate with the Kowloon Motor Bus to showcase the vintage and new electric buses in its Lai Chi Kok depot.
A photo exhibition will also take place at the Hong Kong Central Library in Causeway Bay.
Lee said the primary aim of the the administration is to allow the citizens to vote and spend money at home not abroad.
"The government is hoping to raise the awareness and the public's attention towards the elections and let citizens join other activities in Hong Kong after participating in the large-scale event," he added.
As far as voter turnout is concerned, Lee remarked that the administration is looking continuously for ways to improve it.
"There are less than two weeks before the polling date of the district council elections," Lee said, and "I encourage citizens, especially civil servants, to cast their ballots. The government will ensure the election is carried out in a fair, safe and orderly manner."
