According to the press release on Friday, an electric subsidy of HK$1000 in total will be introduced for the coming year by the Hong Kong government, starting from the 1st of June.
Every residential electric account in CLP Power Hong Kong Limited and Hong Kong Electric will be credited HK$80 on the first day of each month for 11 successive months while the last 12th month will be credited HK$120 which makes it a total of HK$1,000. This comes up as a part of the subsidy announced in the government financial budget 2023-24 to further cushion the economic pressures on the public. The assistance is expected to cost the government around HK$2.9 billion and benefit up to 2.9 million eligible households.
The subsidy can be combined with unused credits provided under previous schemes enacted in 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2020, 2021 and 2022. The unused credits can also be carried forward to cover billed electricity charges until December 31, 2025, or until the close of the account, whichever is earlier.
Both CLP Power and HK Electric announced last November that there would be a year-on-year unit price increase of 19.8 percent and 45.6 percent respectively in January. The hike was equal to a 6.4 per cent increase for CLP customers, and a 5.5 per cent rise for HK Electric customers, compared to last November's rates.

補貼可以與 2008 年、2011 年、2012 年、2013 年、2020 年、2021 年和 2022 年頒布的先前計劃下提供的未使用信用額度結合使用。未使用的信用額度也可以結轉以支付電費，直到 2025 年 12 月 31 日，或直到關閉帳戶，以較早者為準
中華電力和港燈去年 11 月均宣布，1 月份單價將按年分別上漲 19.8% 和 45.6%。與去年 11 月的費率相比，中電客戶的加息相當於 6.4% 的加息，港燈客戶的加息相當於 5.5% 的加息。
