Patrick Ip, a specialist paediatric from the University of Hong Kong said on a radio programme on Saturday that the death of the four children in the last four months emphasizes the necessity for the parents to make vaccination arrangements for their kids.
He said that with the summer flu season approaching, only 30 to 40 per cent of school children had been inoculated. "The four children who died of influenza in the past four months were all unvaccinated," he said.
He stressed that this flu outbreak will not be as bad as it used to be because Hongkongers are more aware of hygiene after the COVID-19 pandemic.
"People's awareness of prevention is still relatively high. For example, many people still have the habit of wearing masks and washing their hands often. So, we expect that this influenza outbreak will not be as serious as before," he said.
Ip urged parents to arrange flu jabs for their kids to prevent any uptick as the summer holiday ends.
