The Hong Kong Observatory said before Thursday's mid-day that all rainstorm warning signals would be cancelled.

The Red Rainstorm Warning signal was issued early in the morning leading to the suspension of all morning-only and full-day schools.

The heavy rainfall also caused landslides and flooding in many areas across the city.

The residents in Shek O were evacuated by boat after the rain damaged part of the single road that led to the area.

In Chai Wan, a basement car park was reported flooded as well.

The Red alert was downgraded to an amber at 10:30 a.m. before finally being cancelled by Hong Kong Observatory.

The Education Bureau also announced that the afternoon classes would proceed as usual.
