The Hong Kong Observatory has reported that standby signal No.1 will be issued on Wednesday night, as severe typhoon Koinu enters within 800 kilometres of Hong Kong.
The forecaster reported that, according to the present forecast track, Koinu is expected to edge closer to the eastern coast of Guangdong.
“It may then move westwards along the coast of Guangdong and its adjacent waters, and weaken gradually under the influence of the northeast monsoon,” it said.
“However, Koinu’s impact on the local weather will depend on how fast it weakens and its distance from the Pearl River Estuary.”
The HKO forecaster warned that if Koinu weakens slowly and comes closer to the Pearl River Estuary, it will be rather windy with squally showers on Friday and over the weekend.
