Hong police arrested a 39-year-old man and grabbed more than HK$3.6 million worth of illegal drugs on Wednesday.
The police said on Thursday while raiding an industrial building in Wang Lung Street, Tsuen Wan, a 6.2kg haul of narcotics was uncovered in two mini-storage centres. It was reported that the suspected drugs are meant to be purposely distributed into the underground markets in the approaching summer holidays.
According to police spokesperson, Inspector Cheung Lap-hong of Tsuen Wan district's special duty squad, officers discovered 4.6kg of suspected ketamine, about 730 grams of suspected crack cocaine and 880 grams of suspected crystal meth along with packaging equipment at both premises.
Police said the suspect was working as a delivery man. He was arrested at one of the units “A preliminary investigation suggested the man was lured with a monetary reward into using his identity as a delivery man to cover up his drug trafficking activities,” Cheung said.
“It is one of the methods used to conceal illegal drugs during delivery to avoid police detention,” the inspector added
The police said that the man was still in police custody as of Thursday afternoon, the investigation was ongoing and further arrests were possible. Trafficking illegal drugs is an offence punishable by up to life imprisonment and a HK$5 million fine if convicted.
