A driver suspected of violating the traffic regulations on Monday has led the police officer to draw his gun in an attempt to apprehend him. The resistant driver eventually ran off and dashed his car into nearby vehicles and pedestrians
The police reported that the driver had been noticed for his irregularity at 12:13 p.m. in Cheung Sha Wan while officers were attending to another traffic case. The vehicle was suspected of running a red light and its licence was expired, it was said further.
According to the police, the officers made attempts to put the driver into order but the vehicle sped off in the direction of Wing Hong Street.
“During the chase, it was suspected to have crashed into another private car and two taxis which had slowed down due to traffic conditions at the junction of Lai Chi Kok Road and Tai Nan West Street, as well as hitting a woman on the pedestrian street,” police said. “It then fled to Tsuen Wan along Castle Peak Road in the opposite direction".
During this period, verbal warnings were said to be made to the driver but abortive. The officers then stood ready to fire and beat the car’s windows with a baton.
Police said one of the taxi drivers suffered neck pain and one woman had leg injuries and felt dizzy. They were both sent to Caritas Medical Centre in Cheung Sha Wan.
Police have not made any arrests yet after searching the area. The incident had been classified as furious driving resulting in injuries. Officers from Sham Shui Po’s regional crime unit are following up on the case.
