An unemployed 34-year-old man, surnamed Lai, was intercepted by officers during an anti-narcotics operation on Friday afternoon with 4 packages of suspicious drugs at the Wetland park Road area in Tin Shui Wai, police authorities announced on Sunday.

A police department that acted upon the earlier information that a rented residential flat is being used for illegal drugs purposes, deployed officers to track a suspicious man using the said flat. However, officers later found 4.3kg of cocaine worth HK$4 million as estimated by the police at a private unit rented by the man.
Senior Inspector of police, Yeung Nga - Yung from Hong Kong Island Regional Special Duties Squad said " we have noticed that drug cartels use some flats in remote large private estates with relatively tight security as drug factories and storage to make it more difficult for police to investigate".
The Senior Inspector said further that the arrested man was believed to have a triad connection and further possibility of arrest can not be ruled out.
Under the Dangerous Drug Ordinance, any person convicted of trafficking or manufacturing a dangerous drug can be fined up to HK$5 million and receive a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
