Hong Kong recorded the hottest day on Sunday after midday with the temperatures reaching 30.3°C.

The Hong Kong Observatory said it recorded the figure which is the highest for March since records began in 1884, at its headquarters in Tsim Sha Tsui.

The temperatures recorded at the most monitoring stations across Hong Kong exceeded 30°C, the weather watchdog said.

The mercury in Yuen Long hit 30.7 degrees, the temperature reached 30.5 degrees in Happy Valley and 31.1 degrees in Ta Kwu Ling by 12.30 pm.

The weather forecaster reported that the conditions would be hot during the day, as well as foggy in the morning and at night over the next couple of days.

Temperatures are expected to drop slightly on Wednesday, with a southerly airstream replaced by a weak northeast monsoon in the middle of the week.

Showers and thunderstorms are predicted to arrive towards the end of the week, it was added.
