The fourth largest ever seized illegal drugs worth HK$82 million, over US$ 10 million recorded from a passenger has been smuggled into Narita airport, Japan by a Hong Kong woman, media in the country have reported.
The case involved a 32-year-old convenience store worker woman, Choi Sin-yee who arrived at Narita on a flight said to have ascended from Vancouver on the 1st of July local news media reported.
The joint efforts by Chiba prefectural police and Japanese customs officials, in Japan announced that 23.92kg of illegal stimulants were seen in her bags, which were distributed into 24 plastic bundled bags in black tape. But the kind of seized drug has not been identified and mentioned by the Japanese authorities.
It was said that the largest quantity of drugs ever seized from a passenger’s luggage at Narita in Japan was 29.94kg of illegal stimulants in February 2019.
The Japanese Immigration Department had reached Hong Kong's foreign ministry’s commissioner’s office and also the Chinese embassy in Tokyo as soon as the incident happened, local media reported. However, the spokesperson said the department had not received any requests for help as of Sunday.
On the other hand, the woman said to have turned down the charges and stood on her ground that she only helped an acquaintance to carry this illegal drug-packed bag from Vancouver airport. She told the Japanese immigration that she never knew that the bag contained illegal drugs until when was stopped and apprehended by customs, reported by local news media.
