Jaywalkers are fined HK$2000(US$ 256) as civilian-dressed police are situated across the city

Police increased their patrol on Monday to curb the civil disobedience of jaywalking across the city. The non-uniform officers are positioned to handle those who violate the traffic laws with HK$2,000 (US$ 256) fixed penalty tickets.


According to the reports by authorities, 85 people had fatal traffic accidents between January and October, this year which happened to be the highest since 2020. Therefore, this negligence in Hong Kong society instigated the authorities to launch a campaign to prevent accidents through jaywalking and other traffic disobedience in the city.



Any violator of the traffic laws will be fined up to HK$2,000, according to Road Traffic (Traffic Control) Regulations.


Between August and September, almost 1,800 people were fined for various kinds of traffic disobedience by the police efforts for 3 weeks to tackle jaywalkers.
