Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu addressed the public today's afternoon through media. He assured everyone that Hong Kong is still a haven as he had requested the police to intensify patrol in urban areas so that people can feel safe and have confidence in the city's security again.

He said further that the city's health department has been told to assess the treatment and recovery procedures for mentally retarded patients and handle them more comprehensively.

"The Social Welfare Department will also strengthen district support through its 24 Integrated Community Centres for Mental Wellness" he said.

"I understand that citizens may have strong feelings regarding this incident. Yet, generally speaking, Hong Kong has always been seen as one of the safest cities in the world. "I believe citizens will understand that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government highly values and will further strengthen our work in these four areas so that they can feel safe when carrying out their day-to-day activities,”John Lee said.

The address came after a day that 39-year-old man brutally murdered two women with a 15cm long knife at Plaza Hollywood shopping centre in Diamond Hill.
