Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee has begun an official visit to Qatar as part of efforts to strengthen economic ties and attract Middle Eastern investments to Hong Kong. During his trip, Lee met with Qatar’s Amir (head of state), Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to discuss potential collaborations.

The visit underscores Hong Kong’s push to position itself as a gateway for Middle Eastern investors looking to access financial markets in Hong Kong and mainland China. The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has previously expressed hopes of facilitating such investments, particularly in bonds.
This diplomatic effort follows Lee’s recent delegation visit to Zhejiang and comes amid growing competition for foreign capital. The trip highlights Hong Kong’s strategy to diversify its investor base amid global economic shifts.
