The last person to see missing California woman Nancy Ng on a lake in Guatemala has finally spoken publicly, after repeated pleas from Ng's family.

Ng was last seen kayaking at a yoga retreat on Lake Atitlan on Oct 19. Footage released last week shows Nancy waving at the camera that day, as other kayakers paddle out nearby. After nearly four weeks, one of those kayakers, Christina Blazek, has spoken out through her attorney.

"My client did not go anywhere with Ng. They happened upon each other on the lake," attorney G. Christopher Gardner told ABC7. "She tried to tell her not to swim because it was rough out there and there was a good current," he added.

Blazek, a San Bernardino County deputy public defender, reportedly chatted to Ng on the lake and saw her get out of her kayak into the water. Blazek then attempted to retrieve Ng's kayak and, when she turned around, Ng was gone, Gardner said. Gardner denied rumors that his client fled Guatemala after the incident, and told ABC7 that she cooperated with authorities and gave a detailed account of what happened on the lake to local police.

Ng's family has recently claimed that Blazek ignored numerous emails and other attempts to speak with her. "If it is like she says, and it is an accident, I don't understand how she could choose to leave my family in the dark for almost four weeks, and not just say that from the start," Nancy's younger sister Nicky Ng told the outlet.

Ng, a 29-year-old Monterey Park resident who worked with children with disabilities at a school district in Los Angeles County, attended the same yoga retreat in the Guatemalan Highlands last year. "She loves yoga, traveling, hiking with her family, and cuddling with her cat," reads a GoFundMe organized by the family to aid search efforts. "She has a kind heart, a big smile, and can talk to anyone about anything."

A private search-and-rescue team was hired by the family to search the lake using helicopters, boats and drones in the days following Ng's disappearance. They also reportedly made repeated attempts to speak with the other kayakers out on the lake that day, to no avail, while also preparing themselves for a ransom call.
