On October 14, 2024, a man was apprehended in Fanling after allegedly assaulting a taxi driver and stealing the vehicle. The incident occurred early in the morning, around 4 AM, on the Tolo Highway, just 100 meters from the Tai Po South exit.
The taxi driver reported to the police that a male passenger had forcibly taken control of the cab. When officers arrived, they found the driver with injuries, including a bleeding mouth. The stolen taxi was later located on Fanling Station Road.
Investigations led police to identify the suspect through the ride-hailing app used to book the trip. He was found near Fanling Station and arrested in the Cheung Wah Estate area, where a small amount of drugs was also discovered on him.
The suspect now faces multiple charges, including drug possession, unauthorized possession of identification, assault, theft, and driving without insurance or a valid license. The confrontation began when the passenger, who had booked the ride on Nathan Road in Kowloon, complained about the rapidly increasing fare. After stopping the taxi due to the escalating situation, the driver was forced to flee, allowing the passenger to drive off with the vehicle.
