Matthew Tsang, the boy who was lost in the wilderness for 7 days is said to be in a stable condition and recuperating in the hospital. Matthew's mother explained that her boy's survival was attributed to the strong willpower he upheld during his plight.

Matthew was finally found yesterday afternoon by the firefighters staying where it was said to be about 100 meters undergrowth. He was with no shirt, trousers or shoes along the hiking trail near Lo Shue, authorities reported.

The mother of the boy, Amy Chan, on Thursday morning, was full of gratitude and praised everyone who was involved in the unrelentless search efforts to find and bring her missing son home after a week that he left the school at the Diocesan Boys’ School in Mong Kok.

“Matthew was lost and stuck in the woods for 7 days, and managed to survive using his strong willpower and drinking water from the stream,” she said.

The weekend’s inclement weather had also left her son “thoroughly soaked and realised he might fall sick if he continued to wear his clothes, so decided to take them off and hide in the bushes to shelter from the rain and wind”, she added.

Matthew's mother expressed her sincere gratitude to everyone who joined the rescue effort, including government officers, volunteers, Diocesan Boy’s School’s students and parents, as well as the general public.

“I am deeply moved by the warmth and love of [Hong Kong] people through this incident,” she said.
