On the morning of June 24th, 2024, a 56-year-old man named Tsang left his home in Tseung Kwan O to go hiking in the Sai Kung area. Prior to his hike, he shared photos and his location on the Lung Ha Wan Country Trail with his family using a messaging app.
However, as the afternoon progressed, all communication from Tsang ceased, prompting his wife to report him missing around 7pm. In response, a search and rescue operation was quickly launched. A command center was set up at the entrance of Clear Water Bay Country Park to coordinate the search efforts.
Search teams were deployed to various areas of the mountain, while a government helicopter was used to assist in the aerial search around Lobster Bay. Finally, around 11am on June 24th, the missing hiker was successfully located. He was found to still be alive and was immediately airlifted by the helicopter to the Eastern District Hospital for medical treatment.
This incident highlights the importance of proper preparation and communication when embarking on outdoor activities, especially in remote areas. It also showcases the efficient collaboration between various emergency response teams in Hong Kong to ensure the safe recovery of missing persons.
