The 63-year-old Singaporean restaurant waitress Siti Aishan Awang and her daughter Nur Alayiyah Hanaffe, 39, a make-up artist were arrested in Manila, Philippines Mains International Airport on Thursday( 28th of September, 2023) for allegedly trafficking 14.36kg of cocaine worth 76 million pesos, around HK$10.2 to the country.
The two flew from Doha, Qatar to Ninoy Aquino International Airport in the Philippines. They were detained after being interrogated by customs officers.
The initial reports from the source in Manila said that the cocaine was hidden in different packages such as cylindrical containers, biscuit tins, canisters and boxes placed under the suspects’ trolley and duffel bags.
The illegal drugs were seized by the Bureau of Customs, the Manila Times said.
The seized drugs and suspects were eventually handed over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency for custody and a probe.
The Central Narcotics Bureau in Singapore said that the case has been notified but would not make any other comment while investigations by the Philippine government are ongoing.
“Central Narcotics Bureau will render any assistance required by our counterparts in their investigations … [and] would like to remind Singaporeans to stay clear away from drugs, locally and overseas,” the bureau said.
