MTR Fares Increase by 3.09% Effective Today

Effective today, the MTR has increased fares by 3.09%. This means that over 80% of trips will see a fare increase of 40 Hong Kong cents or less.

For example, a trip from Tsuen Wan to Central will now cost around HK$15.70, up from HK$15.30. Similarly, a trip from Sheung Shui to Admiralty will cost HK$22.10, up from HK$21.50.

The fare increase is tied to a 5.2% year-over-year increase in the transport nominal wage index reported by the Census and Statistics Department in December 2023. However, the MTR has capped the effective fare increase at 3.09% to ensure affordability, based on the year-over-year change in median monthly household income for Q4 2023.

The remaining 0.11% adjustment will be recouped in the subsequent two years - 0.06% in 2025-26 and 0.05% in 2026-27.

To offset the fare increase, the MTR is offering a complimentary ride for passengers who make 10 trips on the network between July 1 and July 28. This offer is only available to adult passengers who have linked their Octopus cards to the MTR Mobile app, and excludes rides on the Airport Express and Light Rail.

為了抵銷車資上調,港鐵會提供免費乘車優惠,凡於7月1日至7月28日期間完成10程車程的成人乘客,只要將其八達通卡與港鐵手機應用程式連結,便可獲得一程免費車程。此優惠不適用於機場快線及輕鐵。
