On October 1, 2024, Hong Kong's Victoria Harbour became the focal point for National Day celebrations, commemorating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The evening was initially set to feature an innovative drone display, but unexpected atmospheric conditions led to its last-minute cancellation.

The drone show was scheduled to start at 9 PM, intended to project images of pandas and the number '75' into the night sky. This was meant to precede a spectacular 23-minute fireworks display that would include a total of 31,888 fireworks in eight distinct sequences. However, just minutes before the event, at 8:52 PM, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced the cancellation due to ionospheric scintillation, which can disrupt drone signals.

Despite this setback, the fireworks display commenced at 9:05 PM, delighting over 330,000 spectators gathered along the shores of Wan Chai, Central, and Tsim Sha Tsui. This year's festivities also featured a special edition of the "Symphony of Lights" at 8 PM, showcasing enhanced lighting and dynamic visuals on surrounding buildings, along with congratulatory messages and patterns.

The event marked a significant celebration for the city, drawing large crowds eager to partake in the festivities.
