Pakistan's Ex-Prime Minister, Imran Khan is arrested

Pakistan’s former prime minister was arrested on Tuesday, just a day after the Pakistani military gave a tense declaration against him for the false accusation against a senior intelligence officer. The arrest was made at a court hearing in Islamabad by paramilitary armed forces.

There has been an escalation of political crises between Pakistan's current government and Mr Khan right from the time he was forced out of office last year which has now resulted in the country's unrest.

Imran Khan is facing many court cases that include corruption and terrorism charges after he was voted out of office last year in April. He has organised many rallies with his party to campaign for a new election and accused Pakistan's military for created the plan that ousted him from office. He also accused the government of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif of misusing the justice system which his cabinet always denies.

The political drama surrounding Mr Khan seems only to have buoyed his popularity, analysts say, underscoring his unique ability to outmanoeuvre Pakistan’s typical playbook for sidelining political leaders who have fallen out of favour with the country’s powerful military.
