The Chinese balloon which is said by the Pentagon on Friday to be probably having surveillance capabilities is spotted in American airspace and might have been there for a few days. The presence of the Chinese balloon, said to be the size of 3 buses, has annoyed the United States and in return, has cancelled the Beijing trip of Secretary of State Anthony Blinken who planned to leave for China on Friday night.
President Joe Biden is closely monitoring the developing situation after he was briefed about this violation of US airspace by China.
Meanwhile, both the White House and the Pentagon said that the balloon does not present a military or physical threat to people on the ground. In addition, there was a strong recommendation by Defence Secretary Llord Austin, Chairman Miley, and the Commander of Northern command not to take any Kinetic action because of the risk to the safety and security of the people on the ground.
Karine Jean-Pierre, White House Press Secretary said that the United States has noted the Chinese statement of regret but the action is a clear violation of our sovereignty and international law and unacceptable.
