Police in West Bengal, India, said a couple sold their child in exchange for an iPhone, the Indian Express reported.
The mother said the couple wanted to use the money they earned from selling their eight-month-old son to travel and create content for Instagram, according to a senior police officer who spoke on condition of anonymity.
According to the "Express" report, officials from the Balakpur Police Station said that local residents suspected that the couple had just bought a brand new mobile phone, and then the police were alerted.

"After interrogation, the mother confessed to the crime and said she and her husband wanted to use the money to travel across the state to create content for Instagram Reels," the official said.
Police also claimed the baby's father tried to sell the couple's other child, seven, but the plan fell through, the newspaper reported.
According to the newspaper, police said the baby's father is currently on the run. The Balakpur police station did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
