HONG KONG - The upcoming Art@Harbour project is set to transform Tamar Park and the Central and Western District Promenade into a mesmerizing display of art and light. Created by the renowned international art collective teamLab, the installation will feature numerous luminous ovoids that will illuminate the area from March 25 to June 2. It is estimated that this extraordinary event will attract an astounding two million visitors.
In addition to teamLab's installations, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department has collaborated with local artists and groups to showcase outdoor art installations. Vincent Liu Ming-kwong, the director of the department, expressed great enthusiasm about this partnership.
The egg-shaped exhibits symbolize the interconnectedness of life with the world, captivating visitors with their ever-changing colors and sounds. As guests interact with the exhibits, the adorned trees in the park will respond with synchronized lights and sounds, creating a dynamic and immersive experience.
To accommodate the expected influx of visitors, the department has organized nine sessions per night, running from 6:30 PM to 11:00 PM. Each session will last for 30 minutes, ensuring ample time for everyone to enjoy the art. To enhance the visitor experience, individuals interested in the exhibits at the lawn area in Tamar Park will have the option to pre-book their sessions for the upcoming week through the convenient Klook system, starting next Monday. Each person is allowed to reserve one session per day, with each reservation granting entry for two individuals.
In collaboration with the Sino Group, the department will present "Chromaflux," a magnificent digital art installation created by five groups of artists from Germany, France, the Czech Republic, and Hong Kong. This awe-inspiring large-scale installation can be found at the Sino LuminArt Facade of Tsim Sha Tsui Centre and Empire Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui.
In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the renowned Chinese wuxia novelist Louis Cha Leung-yung, known by his pen name Jin Yong, the LCSD has organized various commemorative activities. One of the highlights is an exhibition at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, running from Saturday to October 7. This exhibition will showcase sculptures of 22 characters from five of Jin Yong's iconic novels.
Director Brian Lam Kwok-faim expressed, "This is the first officially authorized exhibition of Jin Yong's martial arts character sculptures. It is a unique opportunity as Hong Kong is where Jin Yong's novels were written and published." As a generous gesture, Cha's family will donate a bust of the novelist to the museum, which will be permanently displayed in the Jin Yong Gallery.
Additionally, the French May Arts Festival will commence earlier than in previous years to coincide with the M+ events and art exhibitions happening in March. This vibrant festival will feature over 100 arts and cultural programs, including music, dance, and theater, providing a diverse and engaging experience for all attendees.
Overall, the upcoming art events and exhibitions in Hong Kong promise to captivate and inspire visitors, offering a rich cultural experience that celebrates both local and international artistic talent.
