Suspicion of Jump from Stonecutters' Bridge Sparks Emergency Response

On the evening of September 27, 2024, an alarming situation developed when police were alerted to a Mercedes-Benz seven-seater parked on the shoulder of the Stonecutters’ Bridge, headed towards the airport, with its driver missing. The initial report came in at approximately 8:18 PM, raising concerns about a potential jump from the bridge.

Shortly after, a woman reported her 51-year-old husband missing, mentioning that he had previously expressed suicidal thoughts. Police quickly connected the vehicle’s registration details to the missing man, escalating the urgency of the search.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the vehicle in a chaotic state, containing a child’s car seat, a backpack, and various personal belongings, which heightened worries about the driver’s safety. Emergency services were promptly mobilized, employing land, sea, and aerial resources for a thorough search.

Firefighters secured themselves with harnesses to inspect the area beneath the bridge, while marine police conducted searches in the surrounding waters. The Hong Kong Government Flying Service dispatched helicopters for aerial surveillance, and paramedics were on standby at the scene for any medical emergencies.

The situation remains critical as authorities continue their search efforts.
