HONG KONG - An empty taxi was traveling along Connaught Road West towards Central at about 3pm today. While approaching an intersection near the West District Wholesale Food Market, the taxi driver lost control and slammed into a road barrier.
The impact left the driver unconscious and trapped inside the vehicle, while the front of the taxi began to smoke and burst into flames. Witnesses passing by immediately reported it to authorities.
The fire department quickly received the distress call and rescued the driver from the car and sent him to the hospital for emergency treatment.
Firefighters deployed hoses and teams equipped with smoke shields to extinguish the flames, successfully bringing the blaze under control within a short time. After the accident, there was temporary traffic congestion nearby.
